Максим, How well known is Vladimir Solovyov (philosopher)? I was looking for a place to discuss his ideas. Somehow he seems even more obscure, there are no forums dedicated to discussing his works. Despite him being a more famous figure.
It sounds like he's been silenced long enough to be relegated to the background. It's the same here in the US, even more so. I also ask them if they heard about Tom Brown, Jr., most tell me they haven't.
It seems Andreev knew that people would remember him chiefly as a poet and he himself fed this idea, but you're right, he was not limited to poetry. He also said this about prophet Muhammed, if it's been translated properly:

Yes, it takes about that long for the masses to surmise a man's greatness. They don't want to acknowledge the presence of greatness in their midst, probably because it makes them feel small in comparison. It's always been done, people in our times would probably treat him the same way if we lived back then, for people haven't changed much since then.
Schopenhauer's magnum opus was left unread for 30-40 years. Gustav Mahler's music was rediscovered 50 years after his death. Shakespeare was ignored for 60 years! Even today, the British are unwilling to appreciate his genius, they still believe they produced him, they insist he must have been a learned man, like them, brought up in their schools. When in reality he was really illiterate and barely knew Latin/Greek. The Germans still do the same with Goethe. If it weren't for Goethe choosing to flower the German nation with glory, the Germans could have only produced third-rate scribblers/sophists (Hegel, Fichte, Kant). There's no such thing as a nation of poets and thinkers, for then everyone would be fit for these vocations.
A modern observation:
An user mentioned how they heard from native Norwegians who knew (or thought they knew) the singer Aurora, how they choose to see her as a normal person, her popularity abroad meant little to them.
